Telephony market got a shocking news on 2nd December 2020 announced by Panasonic. Panasonic, a well-known brand in PABX over decades announced that shutting down “the PBX telephone systems, SIP telephone systems and scanner categories” by 2023. Looking closely at Panasonic statement, it is obvious that the brand was not able to adapt with new technology in timely manner and decided to let this business go.

The story of Panasonic reminded us what happened to Nokia few years ago when a mobile phone market leader lost the market to smart phones. We have seen Panasonic tried hard over past few years to adopt with SIP technology and introduced hybrid models however seems that effort was not sufficient in the new era compaction of IP-Telephony.

Additionally, COVID-19 has played an important role to accelerate the digitalization. Working from home concept increase the demand on cloud or hosted PBX and all these factors drove Panasonic to such decision.

How this would affect the customers?

Panasonic customer must look for an alternative vendor, and it is time for considering Hosted PBX (Cloud PBX)Hosted PBX utilize latest cloud and IP technology to provide phone service, it eliminates the needs of having a PBX at your premise and shift all the core phone system to cloud. With small monthly subscription, you will have powerful PBX that is always with you no mater where you are working from. Hosted PBX (Cloud PBX) offers cost saving, reduces maintenance cost and unlike Panasonic and other PABX systems here small or even no initial investment.
